1) Can you describe your typical Pilates class?

All classes at Propulsion last for one hour and you can expect to get a full body workout during that time. I really enjoy mixing my Pilates classes up. While on the reformer (that intimidating looking piece of equipment) you are always using your core even while doing leg and arm work.  I also like to work on specific core exercises during class for at least 25 minutes.

2) How can Pilates improve your climbing?

All climbers know that a weak core is a major factor in why your feet cut on overhanging problems and you can’t seem to get them back on. Core muscles all work in harmony to provide stabilization for your body and to transfer power from the legs to the upper body and vice-versa. So of course your climbing will improve, as your core gets stronger.

A few things I almost always incorporate into my classes are the jump board. The jump board is amazing for training explosive power, which is very important and directly benefits climbing. Explosive power comes in handy when dynoing and dead pointing.

3) How long have you been teaching/how did you get started?

I started taking Pilates three years ago and became totally hooked. I noticed a change in my lean muscle and my hips, which are the weakest part of my body and often held me back doing certain climbing moves. I love the complete workout I get while training and the overall fitness I have from Pilates. I was certified through PEAK Pilates a year and a half ago and am thrilled at the positive changes I see it make on my client’s life.
